3 Alternatives to the Popular WordPress Gutenberg Editor

The new WordPress Gutenberg editor has been met with a lot of criticism. We’ve seen everything from the development team abandoning their plans to move forward with it, to users calling for developers to work on alternatives. So what are these alternatives? What are their features and how do they compare against each other? Let’s take a look!

Divi Builder – a drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress

Divi Builder is a drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress. It can be used to create websites, blog posts, pages, contact forms, and landing pages.

Divi Builder has a very user-friendly interface with drag & drop modules that help you create your website in no time. You can create multiple layouts of your site without any stress by using the Divi Builder Page Layouts feature which allows you to save different design options on the one-page template.

The plugin includes over 40 pre-made designs that you can choose from when building your pages or post layouts so you don’t have to start from scratch each time!

Elementor Page Builder – a live page builder plugin for WordPress

Elementor Page Builder is another live page builder plugin designed for WordPress. It’s easy to install, simple to use, and has a ton of customization options.

Some pros of Elementor include:

  • You can choose from a wide range of templates and styles
  • Your pages will be mobile-friendly out of the box (including full-width)
  • They have an intuitive interface that doesn’t require much training before you get started with it.

Elementor Page Builder Cons:

It may take some time to learn how this works if you haven’t used similar plugins before. There are also some features missing compared to other editors like Gutenberg or Divi builder (elements like Parallax Effects). However, overall it is still one of my favorite WP editors around!

Beaver Builder – a drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress

The next alternative to the popular WordPress Gutenberg editor is Beaver Builder.

It’s a drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress, with over 1 million websites using it. It’s a premium plugin but there is a free trial available so you can try it before you buy.

Beaver Builder has many features that make it easy for beginners and experts alike:

  • Drag and drop elements into your content blocks (like images, text, buttons, etc.)
  • Add custom CSS classes to any block element or use presets like “Blog Post” or “Contact Form”. In this way, you can style each block separately from the rest of the content on your website.
  • Create unique layouts using columns of different sizes within one content block (for example three columns of equal width)

WP editors are a minefield, and it can be hard to find the right one, but with this post, you have 3 excellent options

The WordPress Gutenberg editor has been a hot topic for developers and users of the platform. Some love it, some hate it, but either way, there’s no denying that Gutenberg is here to stay.

While the official WordPress editor can be used for basic posts and pages, if you want more functionality or want to build your own website from scratch then you need an alternative post editor.

There are many plugins available on the marketplace that you can use to create layouts using drag & drop functionality and these include Divi Builder (by Elegant Themes), Elementor Page Builder, and Beaver Builder among others which also have their own strengths/weaknesses depending on what type of site they are being used on: single page sites; multi-page sites, etc.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are many options when it comes to choosing an editor for WordPress. Whether you need something simple or want something more robust, there is a solution for everyone. The decision is up to you in terms of which one will work best for your needs and budget. I would recommend trying them all out until one stick!
